Erasmus is one of the most known programmes of the European Commission, celebrating 25th anniversary in 2012. Erasmus is a subprogramme of Lifelong Learning programme (LLP), the central EU programme in the field of education and training. The Program was established for a period of 2007-2013 by decision of the European Parliament and of the Council and is the successor to the Socrates and Leonardo da Vinci programme (2000-2006).

The aim of the programme is to contribute to the development of an advanced knowledge society, sustainable economic development, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion and ensuring the protection of the environment for future generations. The programme supports exchange, cooperation and mobility between education and training systems in Europe, so that they become a world reference for quality.
